I’m going to start this blog entry by messing with one of my favorite groups of knitters. That would be the knitters of Blue Bonnet Yarn in an Austin, Texas suburb.  They are always responding to my blog entries and let me know that it is being read.
If you read comments to my last blog entry you found this: “If you need more color names, I am always available ;). aka "pond scum" girl.”   You are probably asking who is Kleewongand why would she want to name Pagewood Farm (www.pagewoodfarm.com) colors? If you are asking that question, you are: a) not from Blue Bonnet Yarn in Cedar Park, Texas; b) new to reading this blog; c) a long time blog reader with a short memory? We will accept any of the above as correct answers.
For a clarification, go to my September 2, 2009 blog. You will find photos of a beautiful shawl made by her. The shawl was made from Pagewood Farm (www.pagewoodfarm.com) Chugiak in the Camo colorway. Apparently, Karen and the Blue Bonnet bunch (I know where you knit!) decided that our Camo reminded them of “pond scum.”   For any city folks who are wondering what that means, I went to the West Virginia University Extension site to find this definition: "Pond scum" is actually a popular term for aquatic algae, which tend to "bloom," or grow excessively in the early months of spring, spreading over the surface of the pond in unsightly and odorous mats of green and brown.
They went on to suggest that based on the creativity factor, they should be consulted whenever we name a new colorway. These new colorways got them started again. As I look at the photos of the new colorways, I shudder to think what names they would have come up with. But, I’ll keep you in mind. ;-)
We are very excited about TNNA (a week from Saturday). We have got so many new products to share. I’m going to cut this blog entry short so that I can get to work on them.

Still on the road. Did this from my I-phone!

Here they are.  Our new colorways.  Once again, it was a challenge getting a true color.  I never realized how difficult photography can be.  This first one is one of our tone-on-tone solids.  S-14 Twilight.  It really is only one dye color that varies only by the amount of absorption.  But look at the subtle variations in colors that were absorbed by the fiber.

This next photo is a colorway that has an interesting story.  For those of you that don't know John Francis, check back on my earlier blogs.  He wanted to make a shawl from yarn in Ohio State (as in THE Ohio State) Buckeyes colors.  Red and dark Gray are difficult to combine, but Robin came up with a winner.  This photo picks up all of the subtle variations of the colorway.jfsfolly
But John Francis' photo shows the red/gray tones better as a whole.

This next colorway was inspired by a hat that our pattern designer was wearing.  Grace's Hat is the name. (could we be running low on colorway names? Hope not)

Finally, from the "I Don't Understand This At All" file, comes an old, informal name that would just never die (no, not dye).  It's Chuck's Favorite.

How did it get that name?  Well, way back in the olden days of Pagewood Farm, we did nothing but hand spun yarns.  Robin would dye her own roving and spin it up.  There was a good deal of paler color inside of the roving.  And the yarn that we spun had a tendency (in my opinion) to come out a little on the Pastel side.  I am more of a primary colors kind of guy.  When Robin would come to me with a new color that she had just created in her mad scientist dye lab, I would pretty much (as most honest husbands do) go ehhhh.  Is that how you spell ehhh?  Finally, exasperated, Robin asks me if I liked any of the yarns that she had dyed up as roving and spun.  Did I have a favorite?  Knowing what was good for me, I pointed to a skein of what became our Crayon (only it had red instead of blue as its main color) and said "that's not bad."  And Chuck's Favorite was born as one of our hand spun colorways.  Old customers continued to use Chuck's Favorite as a colorway when we switched to hand dyed yarn.  It was even added to the color rings that we give to our sales reps.  And now it is official.

I'll be on the road to Washington (the state) starting Dec. 23.  I'll try to keep something going.

Later.

It has turned into quite an interesting road trip.  On Tuesday, I lost my phone.  I guess I was getting out of the car and the holster came off of my belt.  I didn't notice it until 300 miles later when I got out of the car and it was gone.

We tried to get a new one on the insurance.  Robin probably spent a couple hundred miles working with the insurance people at AT&T to try and get a pick up in Portland.  They wouldn't do it.  So, when we hit Redding, I stopped and got a new I-Phone.  Robin talked me into it.  Turns out that she wants to get an I-Phone in March and wants me to be proficient so that I can show her.

During down times I have been experimenting with the various free applications.  On one hand, I can make fart sounds with one of the apps, play numerous computer games with other apps, simulate a dog whistle, a piano, and a camera flash.  Unfortunately, I haven't mastered answering the phone.  That will come with time.  I have figured out how to twitter with it.  So, you really need to sign up for PagewoodFarm  twitter.

Pictures soon.

Plans have changed.  Robin's son was supposed to visit over Christmas.  There was a problem with his flight and so now she is available to join me on our road trip to Washington (State of).  In classic Blues Brothers fashion, I've got a Chevy Malibu rental car with leather seats, Serius XM, 18s, sunglasses and 2 pink dogs.  Nothing screams out road trip like that.

We will be monitoring e-mails and phones.  Back in a week.

If you want to monitor us, check out our new twitter site.  Yep.  I did it.
